TRANSPORT OF DAIRY PRODUCE
Licensing Authority Defied IN.Z.P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 6. Dairy produce from some dairy companies between Pungarehu and Opunake has been brought to cool stores at New Plymouth this week by motor truck, though all the companies in that area had been notified that from December 31 their produce must be carted to Opunake and then railed from that station to New Plymouth. The North Taranaki Transport Control Committea. when arranging the zoning, decided that the companies in the Opunake area should use rail transport to New Plymouth. Five of the seven companies in the area appealed against the decision, and the No. 2 Licensing Authority, Mr P. O. Skoglund. visited New Plymouth to obtain information to enable him to determine the appeals. Notification was subsequently received from the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, which indicated that the appeals had failed and that ei.ect must be given to the decision of the Transport Control Committee. The first train under the new timetable arranged by the Railways Department left Opunake last Monday' when it carried the produce of three of the companies. Two companies, the Rahotu and Cape Egmont, sent their produce direct t' New Plymouth by road. Three campanies, the Rahotu, Oaonui and Opua Road, sent their produce by road to-day. It is understood that a Transport Department official met each motor truck before its arrival at New Plymouth, and handed to the driver notice to the effect that the trucks were not complying with the terms of their licences.
