WINCHESTER PATRIOTIC CONCERT
Maori Performers The Victoria Hall was packed to capacity when members of the Arowhenua Maori Soldiers’ Welfare League Concert Party presented the programme in aid of the Winchester quota for the "Win the War” Appeal. The party was welcomed by the chairman of the Patriotic Committee. Mr B. Trumper. The items were as follows: —Action songs of greetings led by Mrs B. Leonard and Miss P. Silk; double poi by girls; boys’ haka led by G. Mikaka; tap dance by Miss Kura Stewart; action songs by girls; single poi by school children; solo by Mr John Edwards (Christchurch); haka by boys; combined pots and hula by Miss Nellie Mita; wartime action songs by girls led by Miss D. Stewart; solo by Mr John Edwards; farewell songs by the company concluded the programme. As a result of the concert £l6 was raised. The hall was later cleared for dancing. Messrs W. Jackson and W. Waple were M.C.'s. PERSONAL Mr F. J. A. Jenkins and Miss M. Bank (Christchurch) have been the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Philp. Mrs J. Horan and family are spending the school holidays in the south. Mrs K. L. Stone-Wigg is staying at Barry’s Bay. Mr and Mrs Stewart (Invercargill) are staying With Mr and Mrs Rissman. Misses I. Lewis and M. Daly ( Dunedin) are the guests of Mr and Mrs G. Willcocks. Mr and Mrs R. Maddren are spending a few days at Banks Peninsula. Miss Conway, who has been staying with Mr and Mrs H. Philp, has returned to DUnedin. Mr and Mrs J. R. Maddren have returned to Christchurch.
