OVERCROWDED BUSES

Sir,—A cable message says that 10 persons have been indicted for manslaughter in Boston following the night club fire in which hundreds of people were burned to death. I wonder if the Timaru Borough Council would be held similarly liable if a disaster occurred to one of the overcrowded picture buses at night. To crowd buses the way they are done is to make them potential death traps. If the Borough Council has not got a legal obligation to protect bus passengers, it certainly has a moral one. Human lives are more precious than rubber tyres.—l am, etc., WINDY.
