THE LAWS OF LIFE
Sir, —Your issue of January 5 had a sub-leader giving excerpts from an address by Dr. S. M. Berry. In ordinary language the speaker drew attention to a debilitating outlook upon life and warns of the danger of suggesting that it is possible to abandon principles and yet conserve resulting temporal gains. Dr. Berry realises, as many others realise, that departures from the standards set by what are occasionally referred to as “old fashioned and obsolete” ethical codes prove, on final analysis, to be the nucleus of the disrupted human relationships responsible for periodical holocausts, and that so long as such departures are presisted in the best efforts of our splendid fighting forces will be unable to prevent perpetuation of their devastating results. To a great extent the successful inauguration of a Christian Order depends upon adherence to Christian ethics and advance towards the consummation of such an order can only be in direct ratio to such adherence. Helpful formulae can be found embodied in Dr. Berry’s remarks.—l am, etc., G. V. HOOPER.
