VANDALS ACTIVE
Floral Emblems Ruined
For the fifth time during the past fortnight the unique patriotic floral displays in Jellicoe Park. Onehunga, were found recently partially uprooted and destroyed by vandals. The Mayor of Onehunga. Mr J. Park, said that if such artistic work, which had taken weeks to design and lay-out, was to be repeatedly ruined by such acts there was no alternative but to convert the plot into lawn.
The police, Mr Park added, had done their best to apprehend the culprits and keep the park clear of mischief-makers, but the wanton destruction continued. The beautiful floral emblems have been admired by visitors throughout the Dominion and from overseas. In addition to a floral clock, worked by electricity, there are six beds featuring the Empire's Dominions. Britain is represented by a lion, Canada by a moose, India by* an elephant. Australia by a kangaroo, Africa by a springbok and New Zealand by a kiwi, all surrounded by the floral slogan. “Swinging along the road to Victory.”
