FURTHER DRAFT

Japanese Prisoners Arrive

(N.Z.P.A.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 1. Another draft of Japanese prisoners of war, which arrived in New Zealand recently under an American guard and were later handed over formally to representative; of the New Zealand Government.

The camp maintained in New Zealand for such prisoners is under Dominion control and is administered in accordance with the Geneva Convention for the treatment of war prisoners. The latest arrivals were all captured by Americans, and were fighting against the Allies at the time of their capture. Among them were airmen. They were taken under escort to the camp where others of their countrymen have been living for some time. The treatment, which has probably surprised them for its kindness, has been the lot of prisoners, both in American and New Zealand hands. No parade of them is made in public, and there could be few New Zealanders who knew of the arrival of the last draft.
