RICCARTON NOTES

(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 15. The overhead conditions were pleasant this morning but the trial grass track was slow, after heavy rain last night. There was plenty of work by horses engaged at Ashburton, but times were not fast, many of the gallops being done under restraint. The fastest half mile was done by Scottish Dale, 51sec, along the back, usually much the best going. She went very well early. For the home halfmile the outstanding effort was 51 2-ssec by Straight Bat. Erambie did 52 2-ssec, Ranji 52 3-ssec, Pallid and Stourbridge 52 4-ssec, while Aquitaine beat Lincoln, in 54 l-ssec. Gayfort and Cheap Lodging were going comfortably to do 55sec. Arabian Night took 55 2-ssec. Stabilise, after losing several lengths at the end of two furlongs, came on again to be with St. Cloud and Hurry Girl in the best five of the morning in Imin 5 4-ssec. Hlnepo did Imin 6sec by herself. Warrigal just beat Nightglass in Imin lOsec, time which John Gay and Warfield, equalled, while Tea Drop and Turkish Patrol took Imin Usee. Wardress and Good Scout did best for six furlongs, Imin 21 3-ssec, with Wardress a neck in front. King Herod and Junior went easily in Imin 25 3-ssec. Atreus, brought home by Tutere, took Imin 34sec for seven furlongs, which Gay Parade equalled. Don’t Forget followed in Imin 34 2-ssec and Foxhaven in Imin 35sec. Lord Advocate was held back to Royal Writ in Imin 38sec. When the Ashburton races were postponed Court Dress was taken back to Wlngatul by A. E. Didham. The committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club has decided to give to patriotic funds the amount of dividends outstanding in respect of the horses affected by the disqualification of Heidelberg. When he won the Spreydon Hurdles last month his rider could not draw weight, and Native Song got first place, while Donadea became third.
