FARMERS’ UNION At a recent meeting of the Fairlie Branch of the Farmers’ Union, it was agreed that representations be made to the Minister of Industries and Commerce about the difficulty in having chaff cut - owing to the shortage of labour. A favourable reply was received, and the labour required for the cutting of chaff was made available. A COLD SNAP After a spell of warm weather a sudden change took place during Friday night, heavy rain falling. The hills surrounding the township received a coating of snow, and a cold nor’-west wind throughout Saturday had a distinct touch of winter. HOME GUARD Owing to unfavourable weather the outdoor parade of the Fairlie Company of the Home Guard had to be abandoned on Saturday. Instruction in musketry and the care of arms was given to the men in Aorangi Hall. The ambulance section carried out practice in first aid work. In connection with the W.W.S.A. a cyclist section has been formed. On Saturday afternoon members were given Instruction in the method of repairing bicycles by Mr A. Shute. ANZAC DAY The Cave, Cannington, Ma Waro Mt. Nessing and Albury Home Guard Platoons with the local Red Cross unit will be in attendance for the observance of the Anzac Day service to be held at Albury in the morning. Mr W. R. Davison, president of the Mackenzie R.S.A. will be the speaker. In the afternoon, manoeuvres will be carried out by the Home Guard. For the
visitors hot water will be provided at the Domain.
