OLD LATVIAN BORDER CROSSED

(Rec. 1.30 am.) LONDON, Feb. 22. Advanced units of the Russians thrusting south-westwards from Novgorod crossed the old Latvian border, says the Stockholm correspondent of the “Sunday Express.” The Russians are now 100 miles from Riga. Other Russian columns pushing west from the Shelon River and north-west from Toropets are rushing towards Latvia in order to reinforce the advanced forces and consolidate the conquered positions. Latvian guerrillas are cooperating with the Russians. Several fiercely defended villages were retaken. The “Red Star” says the Germans have thrown In a great number of tanks in an attempt to halt the advance.
