WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MT. NESSING Miss Austin presided at the February meeting of the Mt. Nesslng Women’s Institute. Correspondence was received regarding the annual meeting to be held in Timaru. The delegate is to be chosen at the March meeting. Letters were received from two soldiers overseas, thanking members for parcels received. Khaki wool was distributed. More knitters are urgently needed. A very good response was made to the appeal for scrap metal. Health stamps to the value of £2 were sold at the meeting. It was decided that no prizes for competitions be given this year, the money to be Invested in the national savings account. The garden thought was given by Miss Irving who also gave an address on the history ot flowers. Mrs A. E. Austin won the wandering shilling competition. Competitions resulted as follows: Shortbread: Miss Austin 1. Mrs Glass 2. Miss Fraser 3. Champion bloom (cluster): Miss Austin (hollyhock) 1, Mrs Austin (lily) 2. Mrs Glass (gladioli) 3. Single: Miss Austin (clematis) 1, Mrs Muir (anemone) 2, Mrs Austin (aster) 3. Hostesses for the day were Mesdames Blass and Norton. Miss K. Fraser acted as pianist and Miss Irving had charge of the sale table.
