MORE PRESSURE IN PHILIPPINES
Constant Attacks By Bombers By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 18. A United States War Department communique states: “In the Philippine theatre new enemy air units are appearing over our lines and are bombing our troops almost constantly. Another bombing attack has been made on the refugee camp at Cabcaben, Hostile artillery fire on our forts from a position on the Cavite shore continues. New enemy batteries at Bataan have increased the density of artillery fire on our positions. "A fairly large convoy of Japanese troopships have arrived at Subic Bay, and enemy reinforcements are landing at Olqngapo.” Major-General Moore, Deputy Chief of Staff, testified before the House Appropriations Committee that the Army would have sent plenty of bombers to the Philippines to aid General MacArthur “if we could get them there.” A dispatch from the Philippines relates the story of Japanese snipers wearing green uniforms with their hands and faces painted green. Tire camouflaged snipers aim to pick off officers. They blend perfectly with the foliage of the trees and use smokeless ammunition, but elusive as they are General MacArthur's men are getting them.
