Sweep By Patrols In LIBYA By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. 1 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 18. The latest Cairo communique states that fighting patrols and mobile columns again operated over a wide are in the Mekeile region without encountering any opposition. In Libya, the lull in the land fighting continues and von Rommel has withdrawn his reconnoitring patrols which were operating in front of the British lines at El Gazala during the last few days. British mobile columns were actively engaged on patrol work yesterday at El Gazala and at Mekeile, 50 miles inland to the south-west. A correspondent in Cairo states that the enemy is indulging in considerable shelling, making it evident that von Rommel is endeavouring to feel the strength of the British forces from north to south in at attempt to deliver an attack, probably with his entire forces.
