GERALDINE FINE DISPLAY
Annual Summer Show Champion Bloom Exhibited By Mrs John South A fine array of flowers was exhibited at Geraldine yesterday for the annual show of the Geraldine Horticultural Society. The success of the function was a thorough vindication of the society’s decision to carry on the snow with a reduction of classes during the war period. All sections of the show attracted fair entries, and some classes were exceptionally strong. The vegetable class was exceptionally good and the flower exhibits came forward in excellent condition in spite of a season of changeable weather and a wet morning for the show. The champion bloom of the show was a gladiolus,, “Picardy,” exhibited by Mrs John South. The Burnett Memorial* Cup, for most points in all classes, was won by Mrs H. Mitchelmore (82 points), with Mr D. Vernail (62 points) as runner-up. The Jubilee Challenge Cup and Mr G. I. Hamilton’s trophy for most points in the vegetable section was won by Mr A. J. Johnstone (40 points), with Mr D. Vemall (38 points) runneruo. The “King’s Ride” Cup for cut flowers (open to exhibitors who had not won more than six first prizes previously) was won by Mr E. R. O’Neill (14 points), with Miss A. Craig (13 points) runner-up. The C.F.C.A. trophy for the open cut flower section was won by Miss A. Craig (14 points), with Mrs W. P. D. Barker and Miss E. L. J. Davies (9 points each), runners-up. Most points in the fruit section were gained by Mr D. Vernall (23 points) and Mrs Mitchelmore (21 points) was runner-up. The cookery section prize went to Mrs H. Mitchelmore (28 points) who won Morrison Brothers’ trophy from Mrs J. Waller (27 points). In the children’s section, Margaret Haywood (25 points) won Mrs J. M. H. Tripp’s trophy for most points, and Daphne Richards (18 points) was runner-up. The committee responsible for the success of the show was headed by the president (Mrs E. S.
