TRAGEDY ENDS ROMANCE
LONDON, January 5. For the murder of the girl he was said to adore, 19-year-old John Ernest Smith was sentenced to death at the Old Bailey, It was stated he stabbed his 24-year-old fiancee, Christina Rose Dicksee, of Downham, Kent, because of an obsession that her parents were trying to part them, whereas they only wanted the couple to wait a while before they married. Once when the girl was on holiday, Smith wrote her nine letters a day, and on one day wrote her 13.
