WAIMATE APPEAL BOARDS

R.S.A. Calling Special Meeting Question To Be Discussed The Waimate branch of the Returned Services’ Association, at a special general meeting, will discuss the question of Armed Forces Appeal Boards, conscientious objectors and defaulters. The decision to call a general meeting was made by the executive. The meeting will also deal with alterations to the rules of the association.

An offer received from Mrs N. A. Rattray to give a garden party at her residence for next-of-kin of men serving with the Forces was accepted. Refreshments will be supplied by Mrs Rattray, and the branch will be responsible for transport. During the afternoon, the head of the War Prisoners’ Association in New Zealand will give an address. The secretary (Mr d’A. S. L. Grut) reported that the membership was 152 as compared with 136 at the corresponding date last year. The meeting decided that no assistance either by gift or loan should be made in cash, and that the secretary or his assistant should have power, on obtaining the approval of any two members of the executive, to issue orders not exceeding £3 in any one case. It was stated that outstanding orders at present amounted to £2. s The meeting decided to request Mr J. M. Kirk to represent the branch at a meeting in Timaru in connection with pension matters.
