WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

LYALLDALE Mrs R. Thompson presided over the monthly meeting of the Lyalldale Women’s Institute. Reports were received from Mrs McKeown on the half-yearly meeting of the Walmate Federation, and the field day held at “Craigmore.” The president reported gratifying results from the recent social and dance. It was decided to send a letter of congratulations to Mrs Cocks on receiving a long service badge. Mrs Thomas won an amusing competition. The monthly competitions resulted: Premier bloom, Mrs McKeown 1, Mrs Pye 2. Mrs Thomas 3. Cold sweet, Mrs Thomas 1, Mrs Johnson 2. Handkerchief, Mrs Thomas 1. Gooseberries, Mrs Thomas 1 and 2, Mrs Pye 3. WAIHAO DOWNS Mrs H. C. Green presided at the November meeting of the Waihao Downs Women's Institute, when one new member was welcomed. An invitation to the Waituna. birthday party was accepted. Mesdames Wright and Millar gave a report on the half-yearly Federation meeting held in Timaru. An interesting demonstration was given by Mrs W. Mewbum on refooting stockings. The hostess was Mrs L. C. Wright Competitions resulted: Best patchwork quilt for refugee children, Mis W. Mreburn 1. Mrs H. C. Green 2. Best posie, Mrs S. Preece 1, Mrs J. G. Millar 2. Best specimen bloom, Mrs J. G Millar 1.
