ATTACKED FLIGHT OF BOMBERS

End Of Messerschmitt (Rec. 7.45 p.m.) RUGBY, Nov. 18. The fate of a Messerschmitt 109 which attacked a flight of American built Maryland bombers returning from a raid on Cyrenaica is described by the Air Ministry News Service. Coming down against the sun the German aircraft raked the flight with cannon and machine-guns and then singled out one Maryland for attack. The German pilot got so close in behind that streams of bullets from his aircraft were meeting in front of the Maryland as it put its nose down to gain speed. Suddenly a sharp burst of fire came from the Maryland and the Messerschmitt began a crazy spiral downwards until it hit the sea.
