MOTORISTS WARNED

Incorrect Headlights

OFFENDERS TO BE PROSECUTED

“The reponse to my appeal urging motorists to comply with the restricted lighting regulations, and the necessity of using parking lights when vehicles are left standing at night, has been very good, the Chief Traffic Inspector, Mr D. Cameron, informed a “Timaru Herald” reporter yesterday, “but there are still a number of thoughtless drivers who, although their headlights have been adjusted, persist in using the full headlights. "There are others,” he continued, “who are under the impression that they are complying with the regulations if they cover the right-hand light with a piece of cloth or a bag. They forget that a parking light must be shown in place of the headlight. “The left-hand headlight beam must be dipped eight inches in 10ft; which is four inches more than the angle of the beam before the lighting regulations came into force. If the headlight is not dipped to the requirements of the regulations it has a dazzling effect on the approaching motorist whose headlight is adjusted at the correct angle. As ample warning has been given action will now be taken against all offending motorists.’’
