PRESIDENT’S MOTHER DEAD

Speech Postponed Till Thursday

LONDON, September 7.

The death occurred last night of Mrs Sara Delano Roosevelt, in her 87th year. The President was at her bedside at Hyde Park when she died.

Mrs Roosevelt, who had been unconscious for 12 hours, guided the early

career of the President, and saw his rise from State Senator to the White House. The triumph of her life came when the President took his mother to lunch at the White House after his first inauguration. Mrs Roosevelt took an unassuming but active part in affairs, and was keenly interested in various charities. She visited England seven years ago, and met Queen Mary. The speech which was to have been delivered by President Roosevelt on Tuesday has now been postponed till Thursday.
