FAIRLIE

PERSONAL Mr E. L. Breach, who was recently appointed headmaster of the Fairlie District High School, will take over his duties on Monday. RED CROSS SOCIETY At the quarterly meeting of the Fairlie Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society members stood in silence as a mark of respect for the late Mrs Gillingham. Arrangements were made to collect sewing regularly from the depot. Members discussed a memorandum from Timaru inviting the names of those willing to undertake 40 hours tuition in the kitchen or laundry at the Timaru Hospital. It was decided to send letters to the presidents of the surrounding Institutes asking them for names. A letter was received from Mrs E. W. Allan, of Allanburn, Sherwood, saying that after being nine months a prisoner of war in Germany, her son had received a very welcome parcel of clothing from the N.Z. Red Cross Society.
