HARE DRIVE NETS £l5 A hare shoot, organised for patriotic funds, was held on Sunday on the properties of Messrs Grant and Bain, Clandeboye. About 80 shooters took part and approximately 300 hares were collected. A dressed goose, given by Mrs L. LIGHTING RESTRICTIONS The Lighting Controller for South Canterbury (Mr J. M. Bishop) attended a meeting of the Temuka E.PJS. and outlined the regulations applicable to Temuka. All vehicles entering a restricted area at night are bound to conform to the regulations which permit only <:ie head light and parking lights. The light nearest the traffic must be out. It was agreed to make the necessary information available to those affected. Approved shades for street lighting will be experimented with in High Street. The following committee was appointed to deal with the matter; Messrs J. M. Bishop, W. H. McMillan, M. E. Hill, E. Blackmore, W. L. Harrison, and F. J. Robertson. LATE MRS H. J. MURPHY Evidence of the high esteem in which the late Mrs Hugh Murphy was held was the large and representative attendance at the funeral, which was one of the most impressive seen in the district for some time. The Rev. W. F. Nichol conducted the service, and members of the Bowling Club were pall bearers. The deceased was a former well-known Wyndham resident and was born at Taieri, being the third daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Daniel Ross who lived later at Menzies Ferry. Mrs Murphy took part in the many activities of the town, giving particular service as a vocalist. She married Mr H. J. Murphy, one of Southland’s most prominent representative Rugby players of the early days. Correspondence was received from Private Chapman who is serving with the Forces in the 'fiddle East, thanking the Division members for a parcel. Mrs Mulligan reported on havihg attended the South Canterbury executive meeting. All members brought biscuits to be posted to the men overseas. Ten pairs of boys’ trousers were handed in for the Lady Galway Guild A game was won by Miss E. Langrell. The monthly competitions resulted as follows: Ginger nuts. Miss M. Drake 1 and 2, Mrs Bolderston 3; parsnips, Mrs Adais 1, Miss M. Hickey 2; small bovs’ pants, Mss Bolderston 1 and 2, Miss J. Flett ?• bloom, Miss M. Drake 1 and 2, Mrs Bolderston 3.
