PATRIOTIC CONCERT

An attractive programme has been arranged for the patriotic concert which is to be held in the Theatre Royal on Sunday. The Timaru Municipal Band will feature melodies which .are proving so popular with our troops overseas, such as "Waltzing Matilda,” "We Are the Boys From Way Down Under” and “Sussex By the Sea." In addition the band will provide specially arranged accompaniments for the artists. Miss Marie Campbell, the well known contralto, will be heard in “The Lost Chord” and “Land of Hope and Glory.” Mr R. Thomas, N.Z. soprano cornet champion, will play a cornet polka and Mr Walter Sinton, a wellknown broadcasting xylophonist, at present in Ttau.ru. will perform on this Instrument. Mrs . . C. Fahey, pianiste, in addition to a special solo item, will provide the accompaniments for Mr James Gibson (tenor). Mr Donald MeInnes (bass-baritone) and Misses Rachael Austin and Betty Cameron (vocal duets). To complete a very fine programme a specially trained choir under the baton of Miss Lilian McDonald will provide several attractive selections. The Mayor (Mr W. G. Tweedy) will be present. The entire proceeds will be handed to the Patriotic ' authorities. The box plan is at Beggs.
