MOBILE CANTEENS
Five Under Construction (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 19. Five 30cwt chassis have been landed here from overseas, and are to be used to build mobile canteens for the New Zealand forces. The secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board (Mr G. A. Hayden) said to-day that when completed they will be sent to the Middle East. Funds for two had been subscribed by the staff of Woolworths (N.Z.), Ltd., and the other three had been given respectively by members of the Masonic Order, native children (for use with the Maori Battalion) and by the New Zealand Shop Assistants’ Federation, representing shop assistants throughout the Dominion. It was reported at a meeting of the Board yesterday that the construction of an ice-cream plant for the forces in the Middle East was well in hand, and completion at an early date was expected.
