BARNES VALERIE HOBSON ALASTAIR SIM In “THIS MAN IS NEWS” The Powers of Gangland are on his Trail, but he Baffles them. (Recommended by Censor for Adults.) Stalls 6d, Dress Circle 1/PUBLIC NOTICES TO THE ELECTORS OF TIMARU Ladies and Gentlemen, At the request of a number of Citizens I have decided once more to contest a Seat upon the Council at the forthcoming local elections. In acceding to such request I have done so the more readily, since, as a retired professional man with the choice of any town within the Dominion as a settled place of residence my ultimate selection favoured our thriving South Canterbury Centre, because of its splendid civic amenltie* and its ttemendous latent possibility of development in this direction. It is in order to further this development to the utmost that I herewith offer my services. As an ex-representative player in most of its branches, all outdoor sport claims my enthusiastic attention, and any requests or suggestions from local sports bodies would at all times commend themselves to my sympathetic and unbiased consideration. The excellent response of the Timaru public to the present war effort has been most gratifying to me as a Returned Soldier, and I should esteem it a privilege to undertake my full share of Civic responsibility in promoting and extending that worthy effort to its farthest limits.

Having had now two years’ experience upon the Council of the South Ward Committee, where mafiy projects designed to add to the dignity and beauty of our already naturally beautiful town have been discussed and found tenable, and having at my disposal an unlimited amount of spare time to devote to this most interesting and rewarding work, I have the greatest pleasure in offering the maximum of my time and effort to the Electors of Timaru in the service of our South Canterbury Centre of which we may all be so justly proud. I would especially appeal for the support of the South End and Watllngton Ratepayers, as in my opinion this area has not received the consideration and attention due to it, and any matters referred to me for its advancement and betterment vl’l receive my whole-hearted support.
