SOUTH CANTERBURY ELECTRIC POWER BOARD To the Electors of Geraldine County and Temuka and Geraldine Boroughs Ladies and Gentlemen, I am a candidate for a seat on the South Canterbury Electric Power Board; and, in asking you for your support at the election on Saturday Next, I would be grateful if you would consider the following:— 1. As Managing Director of the Temuka Fiour Milling Co., I represent a business that is one of the largest users of electric power in the district; and I would remind you that by our decision to instal electricity in our mill the Power Board was induced to reticulate Temuka earlier than might have been the case otherwise. I am thus specially interested in seeing that all the affairs of the Board are managed in the most efficient way. 2. The question of electric power and its possibilities is to my mind of the utmost importance to this district for the convenience of settlers and their wives and in the establishment of new Industries. I would do my utmost to provide this extension of the service at the same time ensuring that the costs should be made as reasonable as possible. 3. I have been a resident of Temuka for the last 34 years and have always supported in every possible way any movement which has been for the benefit of the community. 4. Finally my long experience in business and financial matters would willingly be at the disposal of the electors and the district. May I< then confidently submit my claim to you for a seat on the Board, reminding you that there are three vacancies to be filled. I can assure you that I would do all in my power to further your interests and would deeply appreciate your support. Yours faithfully, J. T. SMART.
