FURTHER IMPORTS Because of the continued scarcity of supplies, additional Imports of motor tyres and inner tubes are to be permitted by the Government. When the extra import licences are granted it is to be on the understanding that within the allocation importers must make provision for requirements in truex the original allocation for 1941 imports of tyres and tubes were to be confined to Britain and were restricted to 25 per cent, of the 1938 imports. Subsequently it was announced that 25 per cent, of the allocation determined upon could be diverted to Australia. This to turn was amended to permit of 25 per cent, of the British allocation being spread over any Empire country, subject to Canadian imports being confined to truck and bus tyres. Importers were advised recently by the Customs Department- of the decision to grant an additional allocation to the extent of 25 per cent, of the value of imports from all sources in 1938 This allocation above the 25 per cent, of 1938 British imports originally announced will be available for imports from the United Kingdom or other British countries at the importer’s discretion. •
