New Zealand Pilot (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 8. Advice has been received by Air Headquarters, Wellington, that the Distinguished Flying Cross has been awarded to Pilot Officer Irving Stanley Smith, son of Mrs H. A. Smith, 49 Trafalgar Street, Onehunga. Pilot Officer Smith was born at Invercargill in 1917 and educated at the Whangarei Junior High School and the Seddon Memorial Technical College, Auckland He was selected for a short service commission in the Royal Air Force in 1939, leaving New Zealand in July of that year.
