“WE CAN TAKE IT”
London Still Cheerful By Telegraph—Press Association ASHBURTON, January 18. “Hert, at Home, in the front line, we are keeping. cheerful in heart and steadfast in spirit. We have had our troubles, it is true, and our sorrows, our London and our Coventry, but we can take it, and our foes are beginning to know that we can also give as good as we get—and better. Look at Taranto; the news may be stale when this letter reaches you, but the consequences of that crushing blow will affect the enemy for many a day and hasten their ultimate defeat.” In these words the managing director of a firm in London writes in a letter received in Ashburton to-day. “Meanwhile, exchange must go on, your raw materials must come to us and our goods must go to you,” the letter continues. “The ships must sail, trade must flow. We and you must continue to work together at the vital task of placing the home manufacturers’ message before the public of the Dominions, the colonies and the mandated territories.
“Our wishes go out to you, linked as we are in a mutual bond and purpose. May 1941 bring us closer to our common goal—Peace through final victory.”
