PRICE FIXED
Next Season’s Wheat
5/9 a Bushel March Tuscan Basis
By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, January 18. The Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) announced to-day that the price of wheat for the 1942 harvest would be 5/# a bushel, March Tuscan basis, with the usual periodical increments and customary premiums for varieties. The price is the same as that offered this year.
Mr Sullivan said that he was making this announcement early to enable wheat growers to prepart for autumn sowings and give them plenty of time to arrange for sufficient acreage to supply the whole of New Zealand’s require • ments.
In order that there should be ample supplies for all purposes—seed, poultry and human consumption—it was essential that 300,000 acres be sown. “I am pleased to announce," added the Minister, “that during the interview I had recently with Mr H. F. Nicoll, president of the United Wheat Growers’ Association, when matters affecting the industry, including Shortage of labour, the effect of the weather on prince, and other matters were discussed, I was assured that farmers who produce this commodity will, as they have in the past, do everything possible to put the required acreage into wheat this year.”
