WOMEN’S DIVISION

PLEASANT POINT BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Pleasant Point branch of the W.D.F.U. Mrs Jackson presided over a very good attendance of members. After business had been dealt with Mrs Stephens and Mrs Cunningham gave a talk on their recent trip to Fanz Josef Glacier. This was very much appreciated by members. Mrs Archer continued the golden thread, the subject being “Life in the Slums.” She was accorded a vote of thanks. Competitions resulted as follows: Christmas gift 1/6 or less, Miss Crombie. Peas, Mrs Bishop. Jar of marmalade, Mrs Roberts 1, Miss Crombie 2. Premier bloom, Mrs Lyon 1, Miss Lyon 2 and 3. The hostesses for the evening were Miss Crombie and Miss Lyon. SKIPTON BRANCH The children of the Sunbeam Club were the guests of the Skipton Women’s Division at a Christmas party held at the December meeting, presided over by the vice-presidents, Mrs Bruce and Miss H. Longson, who extended a welcome to all. A musical parcel was won by Miss Gwennyth Parr, a bottle competition by Miss Linda Longson and a treasure hunt by Mrs J. Scarlett. Arrangements were made for the annual picnic to be held in January with the Kakahu branch. The flower show will be held in February. Miss L. Maxwell demonstated the making of lavender sachets for which she was accorded a vote of thanks. On behalf of the Sunbeam Club Valerie Scarlett thanked the Women’s Division for the enjoyable time they had spent. The hostess was Mrs E. Maxwell.

The competitions resulted as follows: Jar of roses arranged for effect: Mrs Parr 1, Mrs Scarlett 2, Mrs Guilford 3. Best bloom: Miss Maxwell 1, Mrs Scarlett 2, Mrs E. Maxwell 3. Juniors— Roses floated in a soup plate: Valerie Scarlett 1, Gwennyth Parr 2. Best bloom: Valerie Scarlett 1, Yvonne Bruce 2, Gwennyth Parr 3.
