OBITUARY
MR THORNHILL COOPER By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. December 30. Eighteen days after he celebrated the hundredth anniversary of his birthday, Mr Thornhill Cooper, a well-known citizen of Christchurch and one of the surviving New Zealanders with personal knowledge of the very early mining days on the West Coast, died at his home in Papanui to-day. Mr Cooper’s sketches of mining towns on the West Coast in 1868 are among the mast valuable historical documents dealing with the days of the gold rushes.
