BRITISH ARMY DRIVE
Must Strike Hard At Axis By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright LONDON, December 18. The first Army drive to increase the man-power of the British Army is foreshadowed by a statement by the Ministry of Information. The statement declares: “While the deeds of the Royal Air Force and Navy and the latest successes in the Western Desert and Greece are heartening news, it should not be forgotten what task faces the main British Army. It is the weapon which will ultimately enforce the submission of the enemy. The blockade will weaken him, naval and air action will rhake his confidence, but the war will not be won until the Army has struck deep into the Axis countries. Britain has about 2,000,000 men engaged on military service and another 1,000,000 in the Home Guard. The figures look large, but in fact are small." Thirty-six-year-olds register for military service in January.
