APPLES AND PEARS

PRICES FOR CURRENT SEASON By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, December 19. The Hon. W. Nash said to-day that the Government had decided to offer 5/3 a bushel case for apples and pears for the standard local pack adopted last year. Similiar premiums and deductions would again operate. This meant an advance of 5d on the 1940 basis for local pack and would equal 5/3 local and 5/7 export. The inspection fee would be reduced from a penny to a halfpenny a case on all fruit sold to the Internal Marketing Division. Under the 1941 scheme a grower should, therefore, receive an average increase of 5Jd a case net return. It was also proposed to pay a special bonus on early varieties harvested before January 13. This premium would be graduated according to delivery date.
