SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED Lieutenant I. Murchison and Private A. Cox were the guests of residents at a social. The chairman of the Patriotic Committee, Mr F. S. Smith, in making a presentation of compact shaving sets, congratulated both men on the step they had taken, and wished them good luck and a safe return. Lieutenant Murchison and Private Cox suitably replied. Other speakers were Mrs Hewitt, Messrs H. B. Dale and W. Brown. Euchre prizes were won by Mesdames Brown, F. Shewan, Messrs J. Smith, D. Rodgers. During the evening items were given by the school children. Music for dancing was supplied by Mrs Nicholas, with extras by Misses J. Jackson, J. Dale, Messrs D. Dale, S. Raddon and B. Dale. PERSONAL Mrs Barker, Ashburton, has returned home after a visit to Mrs Campbell. Mr and Mrs F. Murray, Waimate, were the guests of Mr A. R. Dale for the week-end. Miss R. Butchers is visiting her sister Mrs T. Locke. Christchurch. Miss H. Scott and Mr W. Brown, Dunedin, were the guests of Mrs Brown, “Glen Elm,” for the week-end. Miss P. Breen, Timaru, spent the week-end with Mrs F. S. Smith. Miss J. White, Christchurch, is staying with Mrs O. Thompson. Mrs T. Campbell, who has been visiting Ashburton, has returned home.
