BASES FOR U.S.

Agreement Reached United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, November 18. Britain and the United States have reached an agreement for the leasing of bases to the United States, as arranged last September. The settlement concerns administrative problems and questions of jurisdiction. A conference is to be; held, and the British Government has proposed that it take place in London. The bases are on the eastern side of the Bermudas, in the southern Bahamas, on the south coast of Jamaica, on Antigua, and in British Guiana, 25 miles up the Demerara River. The site on Bermuda has been transferred to the United States as a gift, but the others are on a 99 years lease. ’ Announcing an agreement on sites for bases on similar terms to the British statement, the United States Navy Department disclosed that the airfields to be established by the United States in Jamaica were also to be used for British military aircraft. The controlling authorities would have first call on the available accommodation. It also revealed that the United States received the right to develop the resources and facilities of Jamaica’s Port Royal dockyard which will be under British control but available for joint use.
