COST OF £22,440

New Hospital Kitchen Block Board To Seek Loan The estimated cost of building and equipping the proposed new kitchen block at the Timaru Public Hospital is £22.440? which is £6700 in excess of the original estimate for which a loan sanction was obtained from the Local Government Loans Board. The Board at a meeting yesterday resolved to make immediate application to the Loans Board for authority to raise a loan for the balance of £6700 for a period not exceeding 20 years and at a rate of interest not exceeding 4 per cent. “Time is the essence of this matter,* remarked the chairman (Mr E. Macdonald) in submitting the report of the building committee. “We do not want to rim into another rise in the cost of building materials.” The estimated cost of the building, with the names of successful tenderers in parentheses, is made up as follows: Building (Mr A. Kennedy). £14,269; heating (Vale and Co.), £2275/3/-; refrigeration (A. and T. Burt), £1097/15/-; flooring 'J. A. Redpath and Son), £521/11/6; equipment including cooking units, £3137/10/-; architect’s fees, £1000; furnishings, £139/-/6. The committee agreed to accept the above tenders subject to the consent of the Minister of Health.
