GALE AND RAIN
COMMUNICATIONS CUT By Telegraph—Press Association GREYMOUTH, October 17. Telegraphic communication between the West Coast and East Coast was interrupted for five hours this evening by a break In the vicinity of Bealey following a severe storm on both sides of the Alps. All rivers on the West Coast are in high flood to-night but no damage is reported apart from a washout at the Goat Creek bridge near the Otira road, which severed road communication with Canterbury. An extensive slip on the railway line to the Liverpool Mine at Rewanui was cleared this evening, and work will be resumed to-morrow. Heavy rain continued this evening on the coast, but the danger of heavy flood damage is considered to have passed.
