IMPORT POLICY
PREFERENCE TO BRITAIN By Telegraph—Press Association WELLINGTON, October 17. Commenting this evening on a statement made earlier this week by the United Kingdom manufacturers and New Zealand Representatives Association, the Hon. W. Nash said the answer to the cable message published with the statement was (1) the United Kingdom Government had urged the New Zealand Government to confine its imports to essential commodities; (2) after provision had been made to meet debt and other commitments, authority had been given for the Issue of import licences for the full value of the estimated sterling which would be available in 1941; (3) instructions in connection with authorities for licensing to contain a provision that any goods which it is essential to import, must, if available from that source, be imported from the United Kingdom.
