There was no public form to guide backers in the McLean Stakes, but cn track work Silver Lily 447-502 was installed favourite from Salutation 287361, Palfrey 270-273, Gay Flight 189361, and Desert Maid 181-296. When the youngsters were on their way Gay Flight, Verlagia and Sing Sing were in the rear, and Salutation and Palfrey had lost ground. Lady Nuffield was soon out in front from Silver Lily, Dash o’ Dublin and Desert Maid, and they ran to the straight in that order. At the two furlongs post Silver Lily sprinted to the front and won easily by three lengths from Desert Maid. who beat Dash o’ Dublin on the post. Salutation was running on, but was three lengths further back. Silver Lily is a half-sister to Mobile.
