LOADING OF SHIPS
Excellent Results From Contract System By Telegraph —Press Association WELLINGTON. June 10. “The co-operative contract system of work on the waterfront has already been tried on three overseas ships with excellent results,” said the Minister of Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb) when he announ. ‘d that an early extension of the system was contemplated. “I feel confident that in a very little while all our Home liners, in respect to which speedy dispatch is essential, will be loaded and discharged under the co-operative system. I intend to make a fuller statement regarding this method to-morrow when details are worked out. “Since the Waterside Commission has been operating, more than 50 overseas ships have been worked on Sundays and holidays and on overtime at the request of the commission to expedite their speedy turn round."
