MOTORIST GAOLED FOR TWO MONTHS By Telegraph —Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. May 2. Two months’ imprisonment witn hard labour was the sentence imposed on Alexander McMillan on a charge of being intoxicated in charge of a car, when the case was heard before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M. The Magistrate said that McMillan had three previous convictions for similar offences. McMillan’s licence was cancelled for five years. McMillan, who is a commercial traveller, aged 37. admitted the charge.

When James Wallace was noticed i trying to start a motor-car yesterday afternoon he was seen to be intoxicated. They key was taken out of the car and when a constable came along Wallace was sitting in the car. Wallace was examined by a doctor and was found to be unfit to drive. These cir- I cumstances were revealed when accused appeared in Court. Wallace is aged 25 and came from Scotland. | He admitted charges of being intoxicated in charge of a car and with I unlawfully converting a car to his own I use. On the first charge Wallace was convicted and discharged, and on the second he was convicted and ordered to ' come up for sentence if called on within 12 months. Wallace is a member of | the crew of an overseas ship which sailed to-day. Charles T. Frederick Brown, aged 57. a farmer, was fined £2O on a charge of intoxication while in charge of a car, and had his licence cancelled for four years.
