WOMEN’S DIVISION

TIMARU BRANCH Miss Cargill presided at the first meeting for the year held by the Timaru Branch of the Women's Division, and extended a welcome to Mrs Buchan, president of the South Canterbury Provincial Executive. Motions of sympathy were passed with Mrs P. Youdale and Mrs Greenall in their recent bereavements. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs J. Brown, whose husband is ill in hospital. Congratulations were extended to Mrs Clarke (formerly Miss Joy Devan) who has entered the realms of matrimony. Mrs Evans read a letter from Mrs W. H. Ward, Southland, who intimated that Miss McKenzie, tutor for the dressmaking classes, would be ready to start in March. Members were advised to hand in their names and also the names of any others wishing to take this practical method of cutting and fitting their own frocks. Mrs Buchan ing would be held in February when the classes would need to be finalised. She urged members not to let such an opportunity pass of becoming their own dressmakers. Miss Cargill appealed to those who were free to assist with knitting for the troops, and there was a good response to this appeal.
