ROSES ALL THE WAY.- East of Kalofer, the Sredna Gora Mountains turn aside from the Balkans, forming a wide plain-the Valley of Roses. In the spring the air is perfumed by the rose gardens spread out on the slopes of the Stara-Planina. It is the centre of the trade in Attar of Roses, and has acquired a world-wide reputation thereby. This trade has gone on for many years for we find mention of it as far back as the 17th century
