SYMBOL OF LIBERATION.— The. St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral stands in the centre of one of the famous squares of Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria. The execution of this work was entrusted to the Russian architect Pomerantzeff, and was built as a sign of recognition of the liberation of Bulgaria by the Russians. It is richly decorated: altars, thrones, mosiacs, frescoes and icons are by the best Russian and Bulgarian painters.
