United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received February 9, 10.30 p.m.) PARIS, February 8. A French communique reports activity of French patrols in various parts of the front. A Berlin communique announces increased activity of Nazi patrols generally with a view to ascertaining the strength and positions of the Allied forces. “We repulsed enemy patrols after a hard fight.”

It is reported from Brussels that a German non-commissioned officer slipped under the barrier of the BelgianGerman frontier and surrendered to the police. He said: “I fought in the last war, when I was wounded four times.”

An earlier French communique states: “There was increased activity by our patrols during the night.” It is reported that a patrol penetrated the German lines deeply between the Moselle and the Saar and brought back valuable information. There have been lively exchanges of fire between the infantry manning the casemates of the Siegfried and Maginot Lines.
