Frozen Meat Experiment Leading article: The success of the Strathleven experiment, which proves that fresh meat can be taken to the Antipodes without suffering in condition or even in e, is a very important matter for these colonies. We learn that, although the machinery employed on the Stratheven for producing cold was not used to more than a third of its power, yet the temperature i~ the chamber was always kept below freezing point, so that the meat was just as good as if it had been freshly killed. It would be a very fine thing for New Zealand, this year at all events, if we could turn our superfluous feed to profit by shipping fat carcases t London, and if the experiment just successfully tried should prove practical for commercial purposes—as there is every reason to believe it will—that will assuredly be done some day.
