DUTCH AIR CRASH
Three Bodies Recovered United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 23, 6.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 23. When the Royal Netherlands Indies Airways’ liner crashed yesterday near Bali, the sole survivor managed to climb on to a wing, to which he was found clinging by rescuers, who set out in native canoes as soon as the aeroplane crashed. He is still too ill to tell anything of what happened to the aeroplane. The bodies of only three victims, including those of Captain Schott and Mrs Mijnlieff, wife of Mr J. M. Mijnlieff, Australian representative of Dutch Airlines, have been recovered. Some of the mail floated clear from the wreckage and may be salvaged. A Press Association message from Auckland states that killed in the crash of the Netherlands airliner. Dr. W. R. Johnston was a brilliant graduate of Dublin University, of which he held the degrees of M.D. and D.Ph. For the last five years he had been on the staff of the Shanghai Municipal Hospital where of late the work had been exceedingly difficult. Two or three months ago his wife came to New Zealand to visit a relative, Dr. A. G. Couston, of Tokanui Hospital, near Te Awamutu, and Dr. Johnston was on his way to rejoin her when the tragedy occurred. He planned to spend some months in New Zealand and then to return to England by way of America. With Mrs Johnston at Tokanui is their only child, a daughter three years of age. Dr. Johnston, who was a member of the Masonic Craft, was about 30 years of age.
