TEMUKA MAORI PAGEANT

Arowhenua People To Assist Centennial Celebrations Tn response to a request from the South Canterbury Centennial Committee, Arowhenua Maoris will participate in the Centennial celebrations at Timaru in the last week of February. This was decided at a meeting of the Arowhenua Maori Runanga over which the chairman iMr T. H. Paiki) presided. The request was made by the Mayoress (Mrs W. G. Returning thanks the Mayoress Invited the Maoris to confer with the Entertainment Committee as to details at the Council Chambers this evening. On the retirement of the deputation the meeting decided that their part of the programme would be in the form of Maori scena to be titled “Nga Ra O Mua” (scenes of the past) in which there would be at least 50 active performers and 50 in the background. The meeting also appointed Mr and Mrs W. Mlhaka, Mr N. Waaka and Miss M. Waaka to confer with the Council. TENNIS ST.
