ORDERS TRIPLED
American ’Planes For Allies
United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received January 19, 12.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, January 17. The Washington corres ndent of the Associated Press of America says it is authoritatively learned that the B .ash and French proposals to triple the present orders for American-made war ’planes will be the subject of a conference between President Roosevelt, Mr Henry Morgai.thau, Jr. (Secretary of the Treasury), and Army and Navy officials. The Allies notified the United States that they are contemplating ordering for speedy delivery at least 8000 ’planes and even more aircraft motors. According to reliable sources this will mean a fui»her expansion of industry which is already working overtime on domestic and foreign military contracts. Officials indicated strongly, however, that such expansion if orderly, would be welcomed as aiding national defence, but it would involve numerous problems of taxation. The financing of engines will be the biggest problem since the material expansion of existing plants promises to require foreign fianancing which will raise tax complexities with the Treasury.
