AIR TRAINING PLAN
Will Absorb Large Personnel British Official Wireless RUGBY, January 17 It U estimated in Canada that the £120,000,000 Empire air training scheme will, when in full operation, absorb a personnel of at least 30.000 airmen, 3680 officers, nearly 5000 civilians, and over 1000 of a maintenance staff. Nearly 70 instructional schools will be needed to give the fullest training to the personnel In every branch of military aviation. The spontaneity and strength of Canada’s war effort is strikingly demonstrated in two recent advices from Ottawa. The Canadian Red Cross has already collected about £900,000. The Department of National Defence has announced that 8500 doctors have volunteered to place their services at the disposal of the defence authorities lor medical work of all kinds. Aircraft Ordered It is reported from Ottawa that the British Air Ministry ordered 850 aircraft and 736 additional engines in connection with the air training plan. According to the War Supply Board’s weekly report equipment Is being supplied without cost to Canada since it represents part of the British Government’s share of the plan.
